Rules of Contest
(Applies to both Youth and Adult contestants)

Please read and understand the rules of the convention. This is to help up complete our schedule within curfew time. Band manager please inform individuals.

  1. Contestants must be registered by Tuesday, May 26, 2009.
  2. Please notice change in Band Number Assignments. All band mangers must report to Office before 5 p.m. Friday in order to be informed of new numbering system and receive your Band Number. Bands will perform in numerical order assigned.
  3. NO registration on the night of the Convention.
  4. If not registered by May 26, you do not play in competition.
  5. Only string instruments will be judged. 
  6. No electrical instruments in competition.
  7. Contestants will be charged $10.00, $5.00 refunded Saturday night after performance. Contestants must pay contestant ticket, not general admission ticket.
  8. ALL BANDS MUST PERFORM Friday and Saturday night to be eligible for prizes.
  9. ALL INDIVIDUALS will perform only once, beginning Saturday at 9:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
  10. Adult Dancers will perform after band competition Saturday night. No  money refund to dancers or folks songs. Prizes awarded only.
  11. Register and pay in advance or send information to Fiddlers Convention, Attn: Carlyle Whitaker, P.O. Box 455, Mount Airy NC 27030.
  12. Bands must register under band name, individual members may also enter one other string instrument contest, as well as folk singing and dancing if they desire. However, no individual shall enter more than one string instrument besides his band.
  13. To qualify, a band must consist of at least 3 different sting instruments, one being a fiddle or banjo.
  14. No bluegrass banjo allowed in an old-time band.
  15. Only one instrument will be allowed as accompaniment in any individual competition.
  16. In filing entry, all contestants agree that the sponsors may tape and record performances free of claim of contestants.
  17. Registered contestants will not be reimbursed for general admission tickets.
  18. Veterans Memorial Park has exclusive right to reproduce any and all music played at the convention.
  19. No exceptions to any of the above rules.
  20. No band will consist of over 6 instruments.
  21. The Judges' decisions are final in all instances.
  22. No alcohol, drugs or dogs allowed on grounds.
  23. All contestants will be judged by point system.
  24. Band members that register for individual competition will be refunded $10.00 of their contestant money when they come off stage on Saturday night. Registered individuals that are not with a band will be refunded $10.00 of their contestant money. Band members must perform Friday and Saturday. Youth should register on same form as adults. Indicate beside of instrument if youth.
